Evan Schwartz, who led Google’s search and advertising business from 2003 to 2011, joined the blockchain startup Chainlink as a strategic advisor. Chainlink is building decentralized networks for reliable off-chain data integration between smart contracts on different blockchains. The company raised over $36 million dollars in its token sale last month and has received investment from Union Square Ventures (USV), Coinbase cofounder Fred Ehrsam, Polychain Capital founder Olaf Carlson-Wee, Blockchain Capital partner Matt Huang

In a recent release, popular crypto startup Chainlink announced that Eric Schmidt, the famed former CEO of Google and its parent company, Alphabet, would join the business as a strategic adviser.
Schmidt is now a member of Chainlink.
Schmidt’s role would include assisting the blockchain oracle solution provider in achieving its aim of multi-chain interoperability. The former Google CEO will also lead the growth strategy for Chainlink’s oracle technology in activating smart contract functionality, according to the news release.

Chainlink co-founder Sergey Nazarov noted his breadth of expertise in “creating global software platforms for next-generation innovation” as a reason for bringing the seasoned executive on board.
Schmidt claims that:
“The introduction of blockchains and smart contracts has showed immense promise for the development of new business models, but it has become evident that one of blockchain’s greatest benefits — its lack of connectivity to the outside world — is also one of its greatest challenges.”
Eric Schmidt was the CEO of Google for a decade before joining ChainLink. He was also the previous executive chairman of Alphabet, the search engine behemoth’s parent firm.
Schmidt has previously headed the Department of Defense’s Innovation Board and the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence, in addition to his time at Google. He also served on the boards of Apple, Carnegie Mellon University, Princeton University, and the Mayo Clinic, among others.
Schmidt has long been a supporter of blockchain technology. Bitcoin was previously described by him as a “great cryptographic feat.” According to published evidence, he is one of the wealthiest people in the crypto sector, with a network worth over $24 billion.
In DeFi, ChainLink’s oracle
Oracle from ChainLink is a popular Decentralized Finance (DeFi) solution since it gives vital information about an asset’s pricing. Its capabilities may be expanded to include information on athletic events, meteorological data, and much more.
It launched Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol earlier this year, which allows users to “transfer digital assets and execute smart contracts across the multiple chains utilized across the metaverse.”
In order to increase the reach of DeFi into other regions, Chainlink has formed a cooperation with the Associated Press.
